The Darkness is a substance that pervades the entirety of the Forget Already world. At its source lies the goddess, Death, who's presence can be felt from all corners of the world.
Everyone has their own reasons for being here the Darkness will say ,through you, all the hateful things you always wanted to say and the most hurtful things you've always wanted to do. There is no escape from this. Do as fate demands, as per Death's prophecy's, and nothing bad will ever happen. Assuming that part of the plan isn't for you to go insane....
In terms of the canon, the Darkness is a mist, often purple, that causes temporary insanity when you inhale it. It usually is used by the Lady Death to push people towards a certain result. It's really hard to talk about it without context, but purple bile is a trademark reaction to the Darkness.
