[Forget Aleady] Portal (Chapter 1) {Main Fiction}

Darkness settled upon the world that She made. It was quiet; except for the chirps of lonely crickets calling in the night. It did not bother her. The field, choked full of tall weeds, parted like water as she passed. Although it did not matter to her, she did this for the others. They who were behind her danced to avoid the weeds, especially the ones with thorns, in an effort to keep up with her pace. The woman, smiled, as they were amusing to her, but quickened her pace. They were almost there.

"Mistress," the thin man, who trailed her like a nervous dog, whispered, "I don't want to bother you, but-"

"-Go ahead." The woman called behind her, not looking back. Although she knew what he was going to ask, she allowed him to speak. She sighed. He was so irritating sometimes, with his worries and flighty personality, but she grudgingly accepted that as his way. Though, it still annoyed her that he was so afraid to speak to her, especially when she was in such a good mood. He knew, as well as she did, that unless you screwed up terribly, being yelled at was the kindest thing she could do.

Before he could raise his voice to speak again, they had arrived to a small stone platform. Sighing, because he had lost his chance to ask his question, the thin man passed the hand of the young woman to his mistress. He had been holding her hand in the darkness the entire way, watching to make sure she didn't trip in a hole or worse. The small woman shook in the chill of the night air; was it really the chill or was it the nervousness. She knew what she had to do.

"Go ahead and stand in the middle like I showed you." The woman told the younger one, grabbing her hand only to tug her towards the area, then letting her walk the rest of the way by herself. She took a deep breath and began pulling energies towards her. Spirits of all kinds came to watch from afar, for safety, as the woman lifted her hands, eyes dark, gesturing ripping into the night air. The world around the three responded accordingly to the demands. The wind plowing down the weeds; never springing back up, as if tormented into breaking. A sphere of energy, from the middle of the area far above them, grew and pulsed. The portal was created. It was lowered slowly to the ground and all made way for its descent.

"You did it." The woman smirked, "I knew you could do it."

"Thank you." The frail woman, sinking to her knees mumbled, "Now all we have to do is...-"

"Get her to go through it." The woman's smile grew and grew as she spoke. She was giddy. Soon all she had been planning for all these years would be finally put into motion. It wouldn't be long now.

Diedre woke in the later afternoon, if the light from the setting sun meant anything. In the other room, the television was on. All that came from it was static. She frowned; she didn't leave it on did she? How was it still on then? Maybe someone broke in? She pushed that stupid thought aside for a second. I just have to turn it off again.

She pushed the covers off her body and climbed out of the bed. Maybe I just need a new television set; I heard that's what they do when they get old. She walked to the door of her room and pressed it open. The static was louder in here, almost unbearable. This only quickened her pace, but she had to stop once she got to the set. Although the static was resounding out of the television, the screen was not normal: a unearthly view appeared before her. It image moved so organically like it was a live video of some field in the middle of nowhere. A flattened area of weeds, almost like something large had fallen there, was focused on in the video. It was like looking at one of those crop circles up close, and this was one of those shows that talked about them. It was wrong because no one was talking; it was only the sound of the static. Maybe this is one of those haunted videos and I'm going to die in seven days. Although that was the stupidest thing, it sent a quiver of fear down her. She stood there for a few minutes, watching the set, waiting to see something terrible, but nothing came. Feeling foolish, she took her hands to the set, mashing the volume down buttons; at least she could stop that horrible static. Upon touching the television, the static ceased, and she had a sudden compulsion to put her hand on the monitor. Lifting her hand from the button, the sudden silence screaming at her to stop, she placed a single finger upon the screen.

Then the world turned black.
