Diedre
had no idea what she was doing. What she knew before, the boring life
she led, meant nothing in this world. It was like she was dreaming. It
was no dream; she couldn't find a way to wake up anyway,
and she wasn't going to test the limits of this world by acting stupid.
For starters, the trees weren't "trees" in the normal everyday sense.
Sure they looked like trees, like the elms and oaks that could be found
anywhere, but upon knocking the "wood" only a metallic echo answered. There were no birds or small animals to be seen in the area, causing Diedre to grip the heavy scythe
with unease. Making matters worse, the sky threatened to rain, and she
heard thunder in the distance. Knowing the consequences of staying in a
thunderstorm, in a metallic forest no less, Diedre had to get through
this area quickly. There had to be somewhere for her to go; the storm was getting closer by the second.
She had to clear these trees. In a normal forest, she could probably
survive, but these metal trees were kind of a problem. Not a small
problem; a big one, one that could get her killed. Panic began to rise
in her stomach. She
had to keep going and find some shelter, but where? For all she knew,
there was no one that could even live in here. How could they? There's
no food or anything seemingly worth risking your life here for. She
picked a direction and started running; there was no time to think now
since it was actually sprinkling. As the rain fell on her, she struggled
to hold the
weapon and run at the same time. Diedre wasn't a runner; she was more
of an arts and crafts kind of person. Heck, she had never even actually
seen a scythe before, never even considered what kind of "weapon" it
could make. It was heavy and cumbersome; had the voice not struck such
obedience and fear into her heart, she would have left it on the ground a
long time ago. Diedre, seeing she couldn't do anything about it now, struggled on in the now heavy rain.
In a stroke of luck, she found a lone house. It sat in an almost circular ring free from the trees with boarded windows.
It was sort of spooky, but she didn't have much of a choice. She looked
at the scythe in her grip; she might have to use this if this world was
as dangerous as she feared. Although
she didn't want to use it, Diedre feared she might have to hurt someone
if worse came the worst. She walked up to the door anxiously, and gave
the doorbell a press as she feared the worst.
